The Platone Italian demo, located in Rome and coordinated by the DSO areti, is working to unlock the flexibility of the customers connected to the distribution grid, to increase the resources able to provide flexibility to local and global electrical system. The following we have a variety of news from Italy!
Standardisation of data exchange
The system operators procure ancillary services from the resources through a local flexibility market. To enable the customer into market, the pilot implements a very innovative and cheap device, named Light Node, installed by DSO and totally free for the customer. The Light Node gathers the real time data from the main meter using a PLC-C channel and receives from the remote operator the activation signal to deliver flexibility.
This solution fosters a standardisation of the data exchange, and it breaks down a barrier due to lock in mechanisms. Moreover, the Light Node is enabling the retail customers connected in low voltage, promoting a massive participation in the local flexibility market and is guaranteeing a great liquidity. Security and trust issues are solved thanks to the blockchain technology used to certify the data gathered by Light Node and thanks to the Shared Customer Database a unique register that collects all the flexibility data and share it, after a strict authentication with the stakeholders.

Involving more and more Italian users
Italian partners are working on the updated version with further functionalities to be offered to the trial participants! The first version was released in July 2021 and the sequel is almost here. Our app "Flessibili” is already available in the digital store! "Flessibili” will let the trial customers the opportunity to check the consumptions in real time and to participate in the market. Currently, a new release of the App is undergoing to implement a digital wallet able to collects the Platone tokens connected to the energy flexibility provided.
More and more users will become an active part of the Italian trial. Indeed, WP3 partners are working on the involvement of further users. On the 3rd of February of 2022, areti organised a customer-involvement workshop where several users were invited to talk about Platone and the Energy Transition. Calculation of the assessment of the project KPIs is now ongoing and the first results of the data gathering activities have been shared with the Zenodo community.
